THERE’S TALENT HERE (Serge) 3/05/13

Written by

Many of the Avoda children are quite talented. Many of them can draw very well. Often you can walk into the kitchen and see three or four children just sitting together and drawing, coloring, sketching for fun. Some are just drawing abstract, someone is drawing a portrait of Anita Miteiko, someone is just doodling, and others just drawing from a picture. And even those who don’t draw, when they see other children drawing, they try it themselves. And I’m surprised to see how good these children are at drawing!

I feel like I’m in the right place  :P  Sometimes I too just want to sit down and draw something.

So this morning when I got to the kitchen I saw that Christoph (Raimund’s son) left his sketch pad laying on the table with his pencils. He had sketched something abstract. When I glanced at his drawing, I had the urge to draw something kind of like his and push the image a little farther ;)

So I got a blank paper and tried to build upon his masterpiece from scratch. It wasn’t much, but it was fun. I haven’t sketched anything abstract pretty much since I graduated from college back in 2010. So for 30 minutes I was in my own world just doodling and sketching while Kwan (little boy), who is always stealing our phones to take photos of anything he can find, took a few shots of me with my phone.

The picture is a giant, dried up tree growing out of some dry planet holding the moon and galaxy in its branches and receiving droplets of water from the planet earth that is being held up on clouds. Really has no meaning…it’s abstract, so you make whatever you want out of it.  ;)

And many of the children here also like to play the guitar. Some are better and some are still learning, but it’s very nice to see this vibe that just rubs off from one child to another, and if one is good at something, they all try to learn and do just the same. Now even I want to learn how to play the guitar (I always wanted to but never found the time). But Christoph offered me a deal, that if I teach him how to paint & sketch, he will teach me how to play the guitar  ;)  (I’m still thinking about it, but I think I might give in:)
